How do I achieve silky straight hair with my straightener?

I have a straightener, and it's just as good as a GHD. Check it out at http://www.trademe.co.nz/Health-beauty/H...

I shampoo and condition my hair about every 3 days, and straighten my hair at least 3 days of the week. When I hop out the shower, I let my hair air dry and it's real soft. But when I straighten it, my hair goes a bit dryer and it goes a bit frizzy. How do I straighten my hair properly to make it dead straight? And how do I keep it silky and soft?
