Hi...I have long, thick 3c/4a-ish hair and I *hate* hair dryers because they just make my hair even more uncontrollable...so my question is do I *have* to use one?
Also, I want to wear my hair out naturally until my next perm because it's too much work for me to straighten it...so I was thinking I would just braid my hair up while it's still wet...all the while applying Elasta QP Curl Wax %26amp; Dudley's Moisture Retainer so that when I take the braids out, the curls %26amp; waves will last longer. Will this work?
Thank you %26lt;3

Chocolat is right, do not braid your hair while wet, to the scalp. It takes the section twice as long to dry and allows mold to grow. Although I doubt the mold will grow that fast! Anyhoo, no you do not have to use a blow-dryer, its actually healthier for your hair if you do not. It helps retain moisture, in return making the hair softer and better moisturized. If you do want to braid it for the wave look try box braids/individuals. It won't be braided to the scalp.
Yes it will work, I do that a lot because my hair is long and Im tired of straightening it between relaxers. Now I just use a flat-iron to straighten the new growth every three months. Apply a alcholal free gel to the braids for more hold, it will make your style last longer, try pure aloe vera gel. It is alcohol free and healthy for the hair. Melted shea butter also makes the hair really soft, a moisturizer you can apply to the braids and scalp and it will leave it EXTREMELY soft, do not apply to wet hair.

Hey!
No i do not think you have to use one.. if you do, get one with the "cool" air option rather than the heated one... it makes hair less frizzy and more easier to control

1) Your better off using a hairdryer and a flat iron for good results. Invest in a good straightener for the best results and stick to products healthy for your hair.
2) The curls and waves will last but probably not as long as you expect. It requires more effort.

Haha, Intell, you're hilariously ignorant. I didn't know much about black hair until I got older (moved out and went to college). I also grew up around mostly white people, so I knew more about their hair than my own, and you don't know every Black woman's experience.
No, you don't have to use a hair dryer or blow dryer. I put enough heat on my hair straightening and curling it, so I stopped using a blow drier about a year ago (which is possible for me because I don't go to salons for perms, my mom does mine, so I have time to let it air dry). I let mine air dry, and just brush and comb it before it gets tangled.
Your idea sounds great. It should work just fine.
Good Luck!
EDIT: Lol, at the girl that said it will mold and cause bacteria. That's a lie. Go with your idea. Some of these people are crazy.
Only, don't braid after a perm, your hair will be too straight for it, and it will tear out easier. Ask your hair dresser about all haircare questions.
Black hair care question?
first off, don't ever braid your hair when wet, it will mold, cause bacteria, and mess your hair up, blow dryers, do what it say...DRY, plus it makes all the curls frizz out...and the reason it's unmanagable, is because of the products, let your hair air dry, so it can start doing what it does naturally, Don't be afraid to cut of that old perm, plus stop getting those, you should only straighten your hair when needed, I am 1/2 black with big hair, i mean big, i let it go natural, no perms, only straighten when i need to...and my hair is passed my belt line, Go to the drug store, look in the black section and get a large green can of Olive Oil Sheen spray, it is so good, That is the only think I put on my hair, it works for the scalp, and keeps your hair moist. Good Luck girl, I have been there, Like i said cut off the old perm, I had hair to my elbows, but tore up, from the floor up, from perms and crap i put in it,,,less than 5 years it is down to my bottom, You can e-mail me if you need more info... loriallison69@yahoo.com

No, you do not HAVE to use one. I also have 3c/4a-ish hair..and I really can't see controlling my hair without a blow dryer...however, my hair is natural (no chemicals), so it's a different story.
If you have a relaxer, just braid your hair up like you are saying. The only way to know if it will work is if you try it. Different things work for different people.

I would be careful about braiding your hair when it's wet because it can cause breakage unless you think your hair can handle it. I wouldn't recommend doing it. Maybe braid it when it's dry or semi dry. I think it will work if you add those products to your hair. If you want more info on what to do with your hair try this web forum I go to often. http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/

I know what you mean about the issue of controlling you hair after washing it. Usually I just braid my hair until it dries and then it's easier to manage. But in your case, I'm pretty sure that'd work since your hair is already naturally curly. But just so you know, don't braid it too tight because you hair will strech more when its wet and you could possibly damage it in the process, so maybe do it after you got most of the excess water out of it, and not to do it immediately after a perm cause it probably won't take and could damage your hair.
