Bathtub caulking won't dry. Why?

Used silicone caulking to recaulk tub over 24 hours ago. It is still as wet as when we applied it. Have tried hair dryer on it and it doesn't help at all. What are we doing wrong?

silicone needs 24 hours to "skin" over. It may take a week to solidify with good air flow. It will always remain somewhat flexible.

Silicone is way overrated. You could've used latex.

you used the wrong kind of caulking I think.Ask at Home depot,tell them what kind you used see what they say.

Some caulking, especially for bathtubs are designed to remain flexible to move with expansion and contraction of the tub. If you rub your finger over it, it may feel rubbery, but should not stick to your finger.

i have had this problem happen to me once on a job i was doing.it turned out that the caulk had froze up over night,then when it unfroze it was no longer any good and would not dry.if this is not the case with your situation then i would look at the humidity level in the house.it does need to cure for at least 24 hrs.

of course you may have just got a bad batch.good luck

was the wall/tile dry before you applied the caulk? that could be the reason, depending on what type of silicone caulk you used. did you use bathtub caulk/silicone or a paint-able siliconized caulk? unfortunately all caulk is not the same. take the old tube with you when you go to the store and ask for why it didn't work.it will allow you to get what you need to fix the trouble or remove the failed product if need be. without knowing all of the particulars it is hard to be of more help to you. so go back to where you bought it and ask. good luck with it.

Migh just be a bad batch of caulk, it happens. You might have to clear it out again and try with a recomended caulk.

Bad caulk or the surface wasnt cleaned properly read the directions on the calk it will tell u how to prep the surface this time of year alot of calking gets frozen and thats no good. I use only dap product make sure the surface is completely dry and u use the proper cleaning product. GOOD LUCK if u have any problems e=me LVTHEPLUMBER
