I recently spilled water on the keyboard of my laptop. Inspite of a prolongued spell with the hair dryer it seems 'b`````#####erd up' completely. Knew it would happen sometime. Tell me, can it possibly be salvaged or can I safely consider it scrap. Most things done with mouse seem OK but keyboard functions haywire. Writing this with on screen keyboard. Any hope.
Thanks, Paul.
Any hope for damp damaged laptop?
There's a fair chance this could be repaired.
Depending on the make, model etc. keyboards are available on ebay from 鎷?0 upwards.
As long as the water stopped at the keyboard, you should be ok.

open it up, let it dry out really good, after a day or so in warm dry air, try it again.

Yes, have it repaired with new spare parts for the affected systems like the keyboard.

Any hope for damp damaged laptop?
why not just replace the keyboard. if you have the cajones you can replace it yourself or here locally for example, shops will do it for under a hundred including the board.

Any hope for damp damaged laptop?
Pop the keyboard off of the laptop - disconnect the lead and sit it on a radiator for a day or two - they come off quite simply - if the other functions work it may simply be a keyboard prob - might dry out and be OK - might not - in that case a new keyboard -
Any hope for damp damaged laptop?

Any hope for damp damaged laptop?
Yes, just let it dry out on a radiator or on top of a fire, and there is a good chance it will work again, although it might need a new battery, as it might cause an electrical trip adn blow up your laptop!!!
Any hope for damp damaged laptop?
Did that with one of mine. Having tipped all the water I could out of it, I left it opened up %26amp; upside down in the airing cupboard for a week, much to the better half's annoyance. Worked though.
I imagine it needs time %26amp; air to dry, as well as gentle warmth. Actually I suspect the hairdryer might not have helped too much. Give it a whirl, you've nothing to lose!

Hi Paul,
Like the twit that I can be sometimes, I had my laptop on the boat roof. It slipped off and went "ploosh"
Jigger, I thought, that is terninal.
But no ! jumped in after it, as I was only in about 6ft of water, retreived the item. removed the batteries, and put it in the sun to dry out for a day.
It complained a bit at first, then regained its' marbles.
I was amazed at the resiliance of the thing.
Similar with a freind that managed to send his cam-corder to the depths. Knackered we assumed, but again found about 30ft down with a bit of lung effort, dried out, and it started working fine after a rest in the sunbeams after a few hours.
I have spilt a bottle of Perrier over this keyboard, prised all the keys out, gave the pad a wipe, poked the keys back in initially the wrong places, and it recovered.
So I hold out hope for your machine.
Just don't put it the oven to dry out.
A good rest in bed is in order. Most electrical/electronic stuff seems now to be capable of allsorts of fluid-based problems.
Remove battery, though.
All the best with it,
Cheers,
Bob
